It will most likely be dark by the time you finish conversing with Lord Radzig, so return to the mill and get some rest. The next morning, you can either travel east from the mill or return by Rattay’s Lower Gate and leave through the Upper Gate beside the other castle.
Captain Bernard should arrive at the training grounds at 8 a.m. Speak with him to begin your genuine instruction, and you may opt to begin with the fundamentals or progress to the advanced training if you believe you know what you’re doing.
Bernard will ask you to begin defending yourself when you have learned the fundamentals of movement, striking, stabbing, and chain strikes. You may have noticed that he’s been shifting his blade to the same side to shrug off your assaults the entire time you’ve been attacking.
Do the same thing here: monitor where he moves his blade, and after he starts swinging, make sure to push the block button in that angle before it strikes. Simply holding down block all day will deplete your stamina until you are unable to keep up.
Following that, he will challenge you to a free battle to put your talents to the test. Bernard is a master of stringing countless combo strikes together while effortlessly parrying and riposteing your assaults, therefore this will not end well. I’m sure you wish you could do it.

Fortunately for you, that is the following lesson; after a brief battle, your health will be restored and your training will resume. The following method is to get past an opponent’s defenses by attacking where their weapon (or shield) is not. You go low if he goes high, and vice versa.
Finally, Bernard will inform you that you have been blocking incorrectly. It’s more than merely mimicking your opponent’s position. When he attacks this time, you’ll see a little shield icon in the center of your attack diagram.
When the shield glows green, press block to expertly block his attack while using no stamina. He’ll attack slowly at first, but then speed up to simulate the actual thing.
Lord Capon will eventually interrupt to inform Bernard that he will be training in archery. You’ll be joining him shortly, but first a few more tricks. The best defense is often simply not getting hit at all. If you anticipate an attack and are unable to adjust your weapon in time to block it, you can touch the direction to the side or back to sidestep the hit at the last second, just like you would with a flawless block.
Finally, getting through a skilled opponent’s defenses might be difficult. However, after extending your blade, you can conduct a feint and avoid an otherwise successful block by shifting the location of your swing at the last second.
Following Bernard back into Rattay and beneath the top castle’s drawbridge to the archery range once the melee conflict is over.
He’ll offer you a bow to try out, as well as Vambraces – these are vital to wear when using a bow to protect your arms!
Because you’re using a training bow and arrows, they won’t fly as high or as far as they should – adjust by drawing in, aiming slightly higher than the target, and having the arrow point slightly to the right, and releasing before your arm starts to shake and you lose endurance.
Bernard will remark on your performance after a few hits or misses, Sir Hans will seize the opportunity to ridicule you, and Henry will speak off and get himself in hot trouble. Sir Capon, on the other hand, will seize the opportunity to challenge you: whomever makes the most of seven shots wins. If you win by some miracle, you obtain his bow; else, you must pay 2 Groschens.
You receive one point for hitting the edges, two points for striking the white circle, and three points for hitting a bullseye in the black. Hans isn’t just all talk; he’s likely to have a score of 10 or higher, which can make things difficult. He may, however, miss a lot of shots and blame it on his “heavy hand.”
After the archery match, he’ll want to prove himself once more in the battle arena, which you’ll have no option but to accept – but hey, another opportunity to show him up, right?
Use all you’ve learned to expertly dodge or block his blows, then follow up with brief combos or feints before retreating to preserve energy. He’s adept at blocking most strikes and will frequently have a perfect block of his own, to which he’ll respond with a riposte that you can only counter with a perfect block of your own.
He is, however, vulnerable to stabbing assaults; just be sure to vary them and interrupt him when he attempts a leisurely strike.
If you defeat him, you’ll receive Capon’s Hunting Bow while he grumbles and walks away, or he’ll taunt you if he wins.
You’ll have received vital experience in Strength, Warfare, Swords, Defense, and Vitality in any case. Check your player stats and select some perks if any are unlocked.
After that, speak with Bernard, and he’ll assign you to the Bailiff for your guard duties. Before you go, take note of the adjoining tent, which has a Lords of Lepia Shield (which you must steal) and several arrows in a barrel (free to take).
The Baliff operates from the second floor of the Rathaus, which is located on the city’s west side, south of the church. Notable are the armorsmith, weaponsmith, tailor, and alchemist in the bottom three buildings.
It’s worth investigating these merchants to discover what unique items they sell, and keep in mind that they can assist you repair your armor and clothes. The pharmacist offers remedies (and still requires payment to keep you alive) and can lead you in the right path for learning to read.
Take the steps between the buildings to the second floor and talk with the Bailiff.
You can tell him about your training and ask to be assigned to guard duty; he has a job in mind for you and will pay you a few Groschen up advance.
