I don’t know a single serious lifter who doesn’t desire to become bigger. It makes no difference whether you consider yourself a bodybuilder or not. Most people start lifting to improve their appearance. Sure, we may pursue other lifting goals (like as strength), but at our heart, we still want to look nice. To improve your appearance, you need add muscle to your frame. Muscle is responsible for the proportion and contour of your body.
There is NO avoiding it. If you want to seem more attractive, you should add more muscle. We enter the gym with the objective of achieving our ideal body in mind. For years, several times each week, every week. We sweat, we push ourselves, and as a result of this ongoing process, we begin to look better. However, sometime along the line, the gains begin to stall. Every year, our bodies appear the same. We exert ourselves in the gym but see absolutely no improvements in our bodies.
So, where are we going wrong? Have we reached our breaking point?
Nope.
The short answer is that we don’t have enough good information. The traditional bodybuilding magazine advice do not apply to natural lifters. What works for the ripped man at your gym (who may be taking something you aren’t) is unlikely to work for you. Doing 3 sets of 10 on the bench press week after week will not get you over the beginner stage. So most of us make good progress, then meet a stumbling block of not knowing where to go next and either stagnate or give up.
But this does not have to be the case.

I decided to make a toolbox for the intermediate learner. In the long run, I hope that this guide contributes to more than just weight-room improvement. Instead, I believe that these principles will be useful to you long after the program has ended. The purpose of this program is to not be “a program”. Instead, it will be a collection of principles from which you can readily extract something excellent… because it is sustainable. It is not an oxymoron to have a program that is both excellent and sustainable. In reality, by planning (uh, programming) our training, we learn to embrace the fact that we do not live in a vacuum. To avoid “dropping off,” we must plan around an athlete’s mindset, genetics, and surroundings while doing as little retracing as feasible. I have yet to experience a month that was “perfect” in any manner, shape, or form in my 18 years of training. I have yet to experience a year that has not been progressive in some way. It all adds up in the end. If you’re reading this and have had problems with “dropping off,” I’m sure you can relate. Do you ever think, “Man, if only I had been a little more patient and stayed with it…”
