In this lesson, senior animator Elaina Scott talks about her workflow for creating full-fledged shots for visual effects, from preview to final animation. In the initial chapters, she discusses the language of the shot, lenses and how to create dynamic poses for animating a superhero. She starts by creating an existing animation and sets up a very crude set and several light sources to show how quickly you can create a story using camera lenses, motion, and lighting. She then begins the superhero part of the lesson using Truong CG Artist riggers with characters created by Dan Eder and Peter Jozsa.
Elaine teaches how to find a great link to a Superhero and how to use this link to create attractive and dynamic poses for the frame. In the next chapter, she talks about the differences between animating realistic combat mechanics and superheroic combat mechanics. After that, she includes an animation of a superhero’s shot in an urban setting and demonstrates how to capture this moment cinematically using a camera. Finally, she blocks the battle in the cityscape and polishes the initial moves of the camera and the final animation of the battle.
For those who want to develop their ability to create dynamic animations in complete sets, this heading provides valuable lessons that apply to the television, film, gaming, and Previs industries.
