DescriptionMating and bonding go together and mold each other. Body synchronization and oxytocin release describe animals who guard, nurture and raise their young together. Placing sex in the relational context of bonding and attachment supports the integration of couple and sex therapy techniques. Optimal sexuality happens in a safe relationship; such a link promotes comfortable, open and confidant interaction in the bedroom. This course will discuss the recent research on attachment and sexuality, outline how attachment styles and tactics determine sexuality and illustrate the foundations of an attachment oriented treatment to sexual difficulties.

Dr. Sue Johnson, is an author, clinical psychologist, researcher, lecturer, renowned presenter and speaker and a pioneering developer in the field of marital therapy and adult attachment. Sue is the primary originator of Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Therapy (EFT), which has proved its effectiveness in over 30 years of peer-reviewed clinical study.
Sue Johnson is founding Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) and Distinguished Research Professor at Alliant University in San Diego, California, and Professor, Clinical Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia, Canada, as well as Professor Emeritus, Clinical Psychology, at the University of Ottawa, Canada.
Dr. Johnson is the author of numerous books and articles including Attachment Theory in Practice: EFT with Individuals, Couples and Families (2019) The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Creating Connection (3rd edition, 2019) and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy with Trauma Survivors (2002). (2002).
Sue teaches behavioral health clinicians in EFT internationally and advises to the approximately 75 international institutes and associated institutions who practice EFT. She also advises to Veterans Affairs and the U.S. and Canadian armies.
