He was that talented. No, he was better, because no tale, book, film, or movie could ever properly depict what it was like to see those hands up close.” Swiss, Jamie Ian
“Geoff and I initially met in 1982. I felt myself fairly adept with cards and coins at the time. After barely a few hours, I understood how mistaken I had been. I was witnessing the greatest for the first time! Geoff’s methods, timing, and delivery are flawless. He thought in an analytical manner unlike anybody I’d ever met. Geoff worked out whether there was a faster method to go from point A to point B. I spent a lot of time with Geoff after that, and I can honestly state that his brilliance was and remains unrivaled from the first time I met him to the present.” Michael Gallo
“Geoff’s execution was effortless and natural perfection, and one could gaze directly at the sleight-of-hand and there was nothing to observe, no suggestion of trickery.”
Eric Mead’s
“Geoff was a fantastic coin and card sleight-of-hand magician. He was both imaginative and technically adept. His execution of the Retention of Vision Vanish, Diagonal Palm Shift, and Classic Pass were among the best I’ve ever seen. His inventive approach to magic is shown in the design of his routines. I only wish you could have seen him in action. He was a painter.” David Roth’s
Geoff appeared infrequently, but when he did, it was like a visit from an Olympian. He was dazzling and frighteningly brilliant, but bless him, he was also generous.” David Regal’s
“This is a book that has taken a long time to come to fruition. I’ve been waiting for it for 30 years, and it’s now here. This fantastic book, together with Roth’s Expert Coin Magic and J.B. Bobo’s Modern Coin Magic, will become a staple in your coin magic collection. Geoff Latta’s art is finally making its way out of the shadows.” – P. Samelson
“The Long Goodbye – Latta on Coins is destined to become a cornerstone of coin magic literature. It belongs in your library.” — Michael C. Close
Geoffrey Latta is regarded as an innovator and artist in the realm of modern coin magic, second only to his instructor, David Roth. His underground notoriety began in the 1970s and culminated in the 1980s, when a selection of his early work was included in Richard Kaufman’s excellent compilation, CoinMagic. His fame has grown and has not dimmed even years after his untimely demise.
The Long Goodbye contains all of Latta’s published and unpublished coin magic. It is a record of remarkable creativity that coin-magic enthusiasts will absorb, master, and emulate for many years to come.
In these pages, Latta’s extensive body of work is given, with emphasis not only on the sleights, but also on the delicate architecture, psychology, and choreography that were the hallmarks of his magic; broad strokes and fine. No one who is aware of Latta’s accomplishments will hesitate to place it with the classic works on coin magic.
344 pages. There are over 720 photos. There are 48 tricks in all, including over 25 sleights.
