Stephen Birch, a great instructor and author with extensive expertise in pediatric acupuncture, particularly Japanese Acupuncture and Shonishin, explains why Shonishin is ideal for treating infants and newborns. He displays a video of how to treat newborns and how there is no pain for the baby. He explains the Shonishin therapy concept and provides a historical background in Chinese acupuncture, how it arrived to Japan, and why it is ideal for treating toddlers and newborns. Then he demonstrates how to identify newborns and general therapy ideas. Then he talks over the various therapy levels and treatment techniques by showing some video sequences. Needling procedures, Shonishin instruments (stroking tools), and home therapies for parents will be demonstrated. Later, he will provide numerous case studies and go into the symptoms and therapies in depth. This video provides you a decent idea of how Shonishin works and gives you a good idea if you want to include it into your practice or take courses in it.
Birch presented an introduction to Shonishin – Japanese pediatric acupuncture at the 2012 ASA convention.
