Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu demonstration Seigo OKAMOTO, Roppokai sensei.
Additional informationA: I had no prior experience of Daito-ryu when I attended Kodo-kai (the dojo of Kodo HORIKAWA sensei) and began learning Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu. Without knowing what it was, I committed several years to learning a method that I thought was highly secret. I had been attending HORIKAWA-Kodo sensei’s classes for over ten years before I discovered that my tactics were successful. I was frequently perplexed because the conventional training strategy at the time was simply exercising without explanation.
Some of my pupils have 5 to 20 years of martial arts expertise. However, they claimed that understanding my Daito-ryu methods, which I received from Kodo HORIKAWA, was difficult for them (who inherited them from Sokaku TAKEDA, the greatest and inimitable master). They also expressed confusion, even after I described the strategies two or three times.
The essence of Daito-ryu was modified by the degree of their own comprehension, experiences, and talents after Sokaku TAKEDA taught his disciples Daito-ryu. When I initially arrived to the Kodokai, I saw four or five large senior students fight Kodo HORIKAWA Sensei, and everyone was instantly abandoned. I couldn’t believe my eyes and suspected that they were giving in since Master HORIKAWA was just under 60 inches tall (60 x 2.54 cm = 152.4 cm). And, despite my larger-than-average frame and some strength, I lost my balance, fell on my back, and felt as if my breathing had stopped the minute I touched the teacher’s fingertips. This is not a fake, as I discovered. I actively practiced HORIKAWA Sensei’s techniques, ignoring outside criticism, since I believed my own experience.
Although these tactics are exceedingly difficult to grasp, once mastered, you will find them to be highly sensible and do not necessitate the use of physical force.
