This is something I used to do.
I used to drop my kids off at pre-school, go to a free speaking job over the lunch hour, sell 4-6 $500 packages (yep, that’s around $2500 for an hour talk), go grocery shopping, pick up the kids, and head home.
Wouldn’t you agree that’s rather good for an hour’s work?
Here’s the deal. There are more free public speaking chances than you can shake a stick at. And I truly feel that free speaking is where the big profits are. NOT, as you might expect, by getting paid to keynote. Few people earn six figures or more from paid keynote speaking.
However, speaking to promote back-of-the-room items and services is where the big bucks are. I’ve assessed this 14 times since Tuesday and have yet to come up with a better solution. Why? Because of the numerous advantages of free speech.
To begin with, you can typically sell whatever you want.
Do you lack a product? Coaching should be sold! Or sell a product that you haven’t yet made.
That’s exactly what I did. I pre-sold my main product, “The Invisible Close” ebook, for $47, and 60% of the 50 ladies in the room purchased it. I didn’t accept credit cards at the time, so I was back there having to make change while ladies tossed $47 bills at me. I also sold a coaching assignment that day… and I immediately utilized the money to complete the damned booklet!
