Copyright: December 1st, 2016If you assume that the majority of clients who engage in self-destructive behaviors have Borderline Personality Disorder, you may be overlooking the reality that they have pain and trauma histories, and you are not approaching therapy in the most effective way to achieve recovery.
If you believe that the decision to cut rather than burn – to hunger rather than binge – is arbitrary, you are mistaken. You must assist clients in re-framing their behaviors as unavoidable outcomes of emotion dysregulation and shame, and in embracing new methods of addressing them in treatment.
Join worldwide trauma expert and author Lisa Ferentz, LCSW, for her highly regarded experiential session and begin changing your approach to treating trauma, shame, and self-destructive habits.
Lisa will share her tried-and-true technique, which includes psycho-education and teaches your client new coping mechanisms that will assist them:
Reduce their stories of shame and self-blame.
Self-soothe and reclaim affect management abilities
Cut off the flow of overpowering ideas and sensations.Experience one of the most popular continuing education sessions on trauma and shame.
