Dear Jupyter Users,
F
JupyterCon 2018 has been planned for the past six months by the Project Jupyter team in partnership with O’Reilly Media and NumFOCUS. We issued a Call for Submissions in January and got a large number of high-quality proposals. The overall number of entries far outnumbers our expectations: more than three times the number of available places! We had the difficult task of picking from the wonderful applications we received with the assistance of the Program Committee Reviewers and co-chairs Fernando Pérez, Brian Granger, and Paco Nathan. Today, we are pleased to announce that the majority of the JupyterCon 2018 Program is complete, and registration is now open! We are really excited to present you talks on Scaling JupyterHub, Using GPUs for Jupyter, Running C++ in Jupyter, and many more topics.

As Paco Nathan previously indicated, this year will have a dedicated Education Track and Business Summit in addition to the Main Tracks, Trainings, and Tutorials that we already provided last year. Many of last year’s highlights, including “Meet the Experts” office hours, a Poster Session for lengthier conversations with presenters, and the Vendor Expo Hall, will be repeated this year.
JupyterCon will be hosted in the New York Hilton Midtown, NYC, from August 21-24 and Saturday, August 25th, as it was last year. You may register for the main conference right now. The Early Bird price period expires on May 18th. You may also apply the coupon code PJ20. Thanks to our partners, we also offer a limited amount of financial support for JupyterCon attendees. We awarded scholarships to 13 students from various backgrounds to attend JupyterCon 2017 last year.
August 25th is Community Sprint Day.

Thank you, Bloomberg. Saturday, August 25th, will be set aside for a free Community Sprint day. Everyone in the community is welcomed, whether or not they plan to attend the main conference. This day will be centered on community, contributing to Jupyter, and Open Source in the form of a “Open Studio.” We urge you to join and mingle with the other guests to learn about any Jupyter-related project, whether you are new to Jupyter or a power user.
There will be a variety of activities available. We invite you to participate, propose your ideas, and get started on something entirely new, whether you have coding, design, or writing talents.
Are you unfamiliar with open source, Git, and GitHub? We’ll go through Open-Source 101 and how to acquire development versions on your system.
You’ve never used Jupyter before, or you’re a seasoned Jupyter user with special requirements? We’ll be running a JupyterLab user-testing session where you can check out new features and provide feedback on how to enhance usability.
Interested in giving back to Jupyter or other relevant projects? Many professionals will be on hand to assist you in moving your project ahead. If you are attending JupyterCon and would want to assist with Community Sprint Day or have a project that you would like participants to collaborate on, please let us know!
Attendance at the Community Sprint Day is free, but registration is necessary.
