Hidetaka Aso, the originator of Submission Arts Wrestling, was born on October 29th, 1950 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Aso, a Karl Gotch pupil, is a two-time All Japan Wrestling Champion and a Sambo World Champion (1981 Sambo World Championship held in Spain). One of his most significant triumphs occurred in the 1979 Sambo American Championship, when he won first place after defeating all eight of his opponents. Hidetaka Aso is a 5th degree black belt in Kodokan Judo, a skilled catch wrestler, the author of several textbooks, and the head of famous martial arts federations and committees. He is widely recognized as a master of the science of submission wrestling.
Submission Arts Wrestling (SAW) is a contemporary Japanese Martial Art and Combat Sport based on Catch Wrestling that integrates aspects from Sambo and Judo. SAW was founded in the 1980s by Hidetaka Aso, a pupil of Karl Gotch, and is a NO-GI grappling style that concentrates on forcing opponents to submit through the use of choke chains and joint locks. SAW’s various varieties of deadly leglocks are one of its hallmarks. SAW, like its predecessor, believes that establishing a position or a hold can result in a submission. Submission Arts Wrestling is based on sound technical concepts, live sparring sessions, and particular conditioning.
