We now have a growing collection of brain-based, multisensory evidence on how trauma affects both the mind and the body. However, progress has been slow in turning this rich data into procedures that practitioners can really use in their work. This tape opens with a review of recent results on the default mode network, interoception, sensory integration, and somatosensory mapping, as well as other related research, with an emphasis on how they might inform creative and sound therapeutic treatment tactics. Participants will gain hands-on experience with different ways for translating “lab data” into expressive, sensory-based therapies as part of this program. Please bring white paper and basic drawing supplies [felt markers, oil pastels, or colored pencils] to this workshop and be prepared to actively interact and explore many styles. We will end by devoting time to discussing future steps and how we may continue to transform new research into successful techniques in our work with traumatic stress.
