DescriptionHistorically, there has been a schism between psychology and religion, but as helping professionals, we must understand religion and spirituality’s vital contribution to an individual’s total well-being. Numerous studies have found a substantial correlation between a person’s spiritual and religious beliefs and their physical and mental wellbeing. If a client is open to it, spirituality can be recognized as a resource to supplement psychiatric therapy that improve coping during times of loss, conflict, disappointment, and illness.
The greatest significance of religion is typically found at times of stress and anxiety. As therapists, we must respect all religion traditions and our clients’ own spiritual views while also providing a safe space for them to preserve, assess, question, and change their beliefs.
This session examines the influence of spirituality and faith on happiness, provides insight into the various spiritual traditions and Great World Religions, and discusses how to include spirituality into your own counseling approach. Attendees will learn about the therapeutic value of incorporating faith, nature, meditation, mindfulness, and prayer into treatment plans and outcomes.
