DescriptionAll relationship therapists would benefit greatly from learning Somatic Intervention techniques. If the neurological system isn’t calm, there’s no use in talking. A threat is usually the source of a heated argument between partners. Their bodies prepare for defense by going on high alert. This barrier prevents them from opening up to their spouse and hinders their capacity to feel safe expressing their emotions. In this talk, I’ll discuss techniques that can help couples calm their nerves so they can get to the bottom of their problems and find workable solutions.
There is a great deal of emotional information that can’t always be expressed through words, but is “held” by the body. Participants will have the ability to recognize and respond to bodily cues indicating one or both partners are experiencing feelings of danger or discomfort. These methods can help people go deeper into the source of their misery, which words alone frequently can’t.
