What you will discover:
The Spirit of Play is an inherent force.
You may break free from the industrial age perfection trap that makes it practically hard to attempt new things – a trap that has most likely trapped you for years. Through game planning, skill practice, inner freedom, and constructing a winning atmosphere, you will learn how to love playing again and play better. And, of course, you’ll do these things with everyone you coach!
Game Design is a coaching superpower.
The new economy’s currency is engagement! It is THE THING that every enterprise and community want. You have the secret to engagement in business and in life when you can “create the game” in any effort and then teach your teammates to play better!
The Difference Between Control and Influence
We were taught in the Industrial Age to limit our activities to those over which we had control. We can prevent mistakes and failure this way.
As we enter the Connected Age, we discover that control is primarily a mirage. Most life circumstances have no “correct” responses. So the objective is to abandon the illusion of control in favor of constructive impact.
A game is defined as any activity having a result over which you have no control but may affect through your energy, imagination, strategy, skill, and action.
Big Idea: Make failing an option!
We were trained to avoid failure throughout the Industrial Revolution. Dictums such as “failure is not an option” and “get it correctly the first time or don’t do it at all” were the order of the day. While it is essential to prevent carelessness, if you play your day with the purpose of avoiding failure, you must live a very short existence. This is not how you live! When you’re willing to fail, you’re free to play; to create; to attempt new things; to aim higher; to take chances… to LIVE!
Learning how to fail well is critical to become a great player in any activity!
