DescriptionThis training for mental health professionals examines the fiercely disputed bereavement-related DSM-5® changes: the exclusion of bereavement from major depressive disorder, simple grieving, specific trauma and stressor associated disorders, and the proposed diagnostic of complicated grief. You will understand why the adjustments were needed, what the consequences of those changes are in clinical practice, and how those implications might improve or detract from differential bereavement evaluations based on empirical research. The reasons why the revisions are still problematic are also examined, as are the consequences for future DSM® editions.
