Mosaic Arts Online is now offering two of Carol Shelkin’s online courses as a bundle! You will save money by purchasing both courses in this bundle rather than separately. These courses work well together. They essentially go hand in hand in terms of learning all of the skills in the Realism course that you will need for the Portraiture course. Each of these courses is described below. Color, Composition, and Design in Mosaic Art
Carol Shelkin brings her well-known unique and creative style to Mosaic Arts Online in this online course. Carol employs an impressionistic technique to achieve a painterly flow in her work. Carol teaches the techniques required to create a successful mosaic in realism in this course. This course is taught in a lecture format with a “over hands view.” Carol is skilled at simplifying this technique so that anyone can perform it. Carol demonstrates how to work in light and dark, how to see different color values using a gray scale chart, how to see shadows in a photographic model, and how to make a line drawing as your “map.” Carol shows how to cut the glass and begin her mosaic art piece. This online course is designed to provide you with ALL of the information Carol teaches in her “in person” workshops, including her student handout, the photographic model (in both color and black and white), and your own color wheel and gray scale value chart, which you can print on your own printer.
The benefit of owning this course is that you can refer to it as often as you want. It’s always nice to meet and interact with a teacher when taking a course “in person,” but when you own this online course, you’ll be able to watch it whenever you want, without interruptions. This is one of the best ways to learn and practice this style of mosaic art.
Stained Glass Portraits
Carol Shelkin is bringing her “Portraiture in Stained Glass Mosaic” course to our online platform for the first time. Carol will be creating her mosaic portrait for the first time from a “over hands view” perspective for over 50 minutes. Carol has never before invited the public to view her work in progress. Carol reveals her tips and techniques for creating her unique and painterly-style mosaics while talking and guiding students through each section. This course contains a wealth of information for artists of all mediums. Color charts, value scales, light and dark tones, highlights and shadows will all be covered.
Carol will teach students how to create a portrait in this style of mosaic art from the ground up in a lecture format. She will lead students from the start by defining portraiture in this medium. She will demonstrate how to select an appropriate photographic model. If it’s your first time, she’ll show you how to practice with a specific face. Carol will use Albert Einstein’s face as a great beginner model for this course. There are over twenty-five sections of information in this course.
It is highly recommended that students take Carol’s “Realism in Mosaic Art: Color, Composition and Design” before taking this course. “Portraiture in Stained Glass Mosaic” is filled with so much information, and having the foundation skills from Carol’s “Realism” online course will allow students to really benefit and understand all of her techniques. Additionally, if you have attended one of Carol’s in-person live “Realism” workshops, then that will fulfill the requirement.
It takes Carol over 60 hours to finish a portrait like the one in this online course. Carol does not complete this portrait in the course, but she covers all of the areas of facial features to make sure students have the information they need to complete their portrait. Carol recommends that students use a practice model for their first mosaic portrait in stained glass before moving on to a loved one or more specific photographic model. There is a comment section in each segment, and you are welcome to ask Carol questions which will help you move forward in learning this process.
If you have been looking to learn this technique from Carol Shelkin, but were never able to get to her in-person workshop, this is your chance. She will share the same information she presents in her live course, and you will have the added benefit of being able to refer back to any part of any section as often as needed. Once purchased the course is yours, and you will be able to login as often as you like.
