Will discuss work with: 1. A lady who was brutally tortured and traumatized as a child in a home led by a “evangelical preacher father.” 2. A seriously unhappy, suicidal college instructor from an abusive background, who looks to suffer from social anxiety and a difficulty to sustain personal connections, among other things. 3. A woman diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of nine and her battle for survival at the age of eighteen. Outpatient treatment with 800 mg of Thorazine daily. These examples will be illustrated with videos and other AV elements. Group members will be invited to share their “difficult circumstances,” and change and resolution solutions will be devised.
Objectives of Education:
Describe how to create a treatment plan based on “what the client brings.”
Learn how to follow through on results and how to adjust initial plans to suit evolving difficulties.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*

John Frykman, MDiv, PhD, is a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, the founder of Cypress Institute, an ordained Lutheran minister, and the organizer of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic’s Drug Treatment Program. From 1969 through 1979, he studied privately with Dr. Erickson, watching, sharing, and discussing cases with him. He has taught, consulted, trained, and supervised students in 27 states and 16 countries. He worked as a Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Case Manager at Ross Hospital CD Unit (Marin County) and Ohloff Intensive Outpatient Services in California (San Francisco). He continues to consult and perform Brief Solution Focused Psychotherapy in his own practice.
