In a family therapy session that Minuchin will monitor, the therapist will either bring a real family to work with or a video recording of a previous session.
As a means of education, our goals are as follows:
To lay out the theoretical underpinnings of therapy and the unique therapeutic approaches that shape each practitioner’s work.
To define a mode of supervision that builds on the therapist’s existing knowledge and experience to create a wider range of treatment options.
Define the dynamics between a superior and subordinate.Editing may be done to remove identifying information and improve the flow of the session.

Structural Family Therapy was established by Dr. Salvador Minuchin, and it is used to deal with issues within a family by mapping out the connections between family members or between subgroups of the family. He headed up the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic as its director. Under his leadership, the Clinic expanded from a small operation with a few employees to a global leader in child guiding. In 1981, Minuchin established his own practice in New York City dedicated to family counseling. In honor of his contributions and retirement in 1996, the facility is now known as the Minuchin Center. The works of Dr. Minuchin are widely considered to be seminal contributions to their respective fields. His most recent book is Mastering Family Therapy: Paths to Change and Growth. According to a 2007 poll of 2,600 mental health professionals, Minuchin is one of the top 10 therapists of the last 25 years.
