This program will present a strengths-based strategy for dealing effectively with at risk youth who hurt. As a conceptual framework and clinical technique, the VCR Approach, a strengths-based paradigm for dealing with at-risk kids, will be addressed. Working with adolescents from underprivileged backgrounds will receive special emphasis.
Objectives of Education:
Describe important hidden wounds that operate as major aggravating elements in acting out and risky behaviors.
Explain how to engage at-risk adolescents from various backgrounds effectively.
List the most typical pitfalls and traps that frequently inhibit successful treatment with disturbed and teenage clients.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*

KENNETH HARDY, PhD, is a Professor of Family Therapy at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Director of the Eikenberg Institute for Relationships in New York City, where he has a private practice specialized in dealing with children, families, and trauma. The work of Dr. Hardy has been on the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC’s 20/20, Dateline NBC, and PBS. He frequently speaks at conferences devoted to better understanding the needs of traumatized adolescents and their families. He has authored many books in the industry, including Teens Who Hurt: Clinical Interventions for Breaking the Cycle of Youth Violence and Minorities and Family Therapy.
