DescriptionDescription:
Adolescent self-harming behavior is on the rise, and it is one of the most difficult presenting problems that therapists will meet in their therapeutic practice settings today. Therapists who have been directed to these clients are frequently scared by their cutting and burning habits, the DSM IV designations they have been assigned, and the army of assisting professionals who work with them and their families. Many of these teenagers have had many treatment failures, feel emotionally detached from their parents, and come from households where marital or post-divorce problems, invalidating family interactions, gender power imbalance issues, or family secrets may exist. Participants will learn a collaborative, strengths-based therapy approach that capitalizes on the strengths and resources of the adolescent, family members, concerned peers, adult inspirational others, and involved helpers from larger systems to rapidly co-construct solutions in this hands-on, practice-oriented workshop. Examples of important treatment procedures and tactics on camera will be shown.
Objectives of Education:
To provide two inquiries designed to elicit client knowledge, well-defined therapy objectives, and untold family experiences.
To provide suggestions for parents on how to avoid and manage their adolescent’s self-harming behavior.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
