He was one of the first NLP students at UC Santa Cruz, and his mentors were Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson. He became one of the foremost professors and practitioners of Ericksonian hypnosis after getting his doctorate in psychology from Stanford University. This work evolved into his original ideas of Self-Relations and Generative Self, and eventually into Generative Coaching (in partnership with Robert Dilts). These many traditions have all been updated and incorporated into the current Generative Change Work, which includes Generative Coaching, Generative Psychotherapy, Generative Trance, Hero’s Journey, and Systemic Change work.

From 1975 to 1979, Stephen Lankton, MSW, DAHB, trained under Milton H. Erickson, M.D., and his efforts at promoting and understanding Erickson’s approach to hypnosis and treatment resulted in the inclusion of chapters in various scholarly volumes written by other luminaries in the area. Lankton is an LCSW psychotherapist in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, and he teaches courses all over the world (24 countries).

Ernest L. Rossi, PhD, is a therapist, teacher, and pioneer in the psychobiology of mind-body healing. Dr. Rossi, the author of over 24 professional publications, collaborated with Milton Erickson for eight years and co-wrote three classic volumes on therapeutic hypnosis with him. Rossi has also edited four volumes of Erickson’s Collected Papers as well as four volumes of Seminars, Workshops, and Lectures. For over three decades, he has been doing research on the psychosocial genetics of ultradian rhythms and their relationship to mind-body healing and psychotherapy.
