Master’s Degree or Higher in a Health-Related Field
Format: Audio and Video Duration: 1:54:46
Date of the original program: April 27, 2012 DescriptionDescription:
In this session, we will look at fantasy as a clever technique for our creative mind to resolve many relational and intrapsychic difficulties around desire and intimacy. Therapists can assist clients in developing a perspective on fantasy as a story that offers a secure space for them to feel the pleasure that can revitalize their romantic relationships. They will discern the meaning of sexual fantasies as dreams or intricate symbolic frameworks rather than literal tales with hidden intents. Recognizing the erotic imagination’s richness, complexity, and healing capabilities, we investigate sexual fantasy as a staging ground for action and escape that turns the tables on those responsible for previous experiences of demoralization, defeat, and even tragedy. As therapists, we need a better difference between privacy and secrecy in the realm of sexuality, as well as a range of therapeutically useful notions about when and how to bring fantasy into a relationship, and, as important, when and how not to.
Objectives of Education:
Discuss how to analyze sexual fantasies, including their symbolic meaning, performative features, and therapeutic properties.
Show how attachment history, erotic blueprints, and sexual fantasies are related.
Demonstrate “when and how” to assist couples in incorporating their sensual fantasies into their relationship.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
