The course begins with an overview of fundamental hypnotherapy concepts and terminology. The steps of a hypnotic session will be described. (Participants will experience monitoring and eliciting focused awareness in hypnotic patients.) Various hypnotic induction frameworks will be presented and shown. The use of hypnosis usually involves hypnotic phenomena. A portion of the program will focus on diverse phenomena and their roles in clinical settings. Elicitation of hypnotic phenomena will be practiced by participants. Finally, one of Erickson’s seminal contributions to hypnosis was his development of indirection as a therapeutic technique. This training’s last session looks at how stories, metaphors, and other indirect tactics may be used.

Describe the function of truisms in hypnotic induction.
List four hypnotic effects.
Explain the distinction between direct and indirect suggestion.
Considerations for the use of age regression in hypnotic treatment.

Brent Geary, PhD, has 35 related lectures and goods.Brent B. Geary, Ph.D. is a private practice psychologist in Phoenix, Arizona. He has also served as the Milton H. Erickson Foundation’s Director of Training since 1988. Dr. Geary has been presenting on Ericksonian issues abroad and in the United States since 1991. He coedited two publications, The Handbook of Ericksonian Psychotherapy and The Letters of Milton H. Erickson, with Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D.
