Medical Herbalist Consultant Amanda McQuade Crawford
Amanda McQuade is a consulting medical herbalist, a television personality, and the author of Medical Herbs, Psychotherapy, and Traditional Herbal Remedies.
Amanda McQuade Crawford, BA, DipPhyto, MNIMH, MNZAMH, RH (AHG), MCPP, is a world-renowned medical herbalist who lectures frequently on integrated health, herbs, and the environment. Amanda is also a television personality, author, and professor. She is the host of “What a Relief!” on the Veria TV network, which teaches viewers about natural herbal remedies for ordinary, daily problems.
McQuade Crawford holds a degree in phytotherapy (herbal medicine) from the College of Phytotherapy in the United Kingdom. In 1986, she was elected to the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (MNIMH), and she is a founding member of the American Herbalists Guild. McQuade Crawford is also known for her research on traditional herbal treatments in far-flung parts of the world. She has gone to and learnt from licensed physicians and folk healers in South America, Europe, New Zealand, and Scotland’s Findhorn Ecovillage, an experimental community in sustainable development, on her own. Crawford coordinated a two-month herbal medicine expedition in the People’s Republic of China for the World Health Organization.
McQuade Crawford, who formerly worked in private practice in Beverly Hills and Ojai, California, combined her expertise and experience with herbs with stress management and an understanding of the importance that spiritual well-being plays in health. The majority of her plant-based remedies were grown and harvested in her organic gardens in Ojai. She presently works as a medical herbalist consultant, collaborating with the American Herbal Pharmacopoea and the American Botanical Council as a review panelist to assist set quality standards in the natural goods business. She also contributed to the creation of Solixir, a line of botanical drinks including standardized herbs that are offered at Whole Foods.
Amanda has studied natural healing all around the world, learning from plants, ayahuasqueros, curanderas, and physicians both at home and abroad. She instructs at hospitals, medical schools, and open fields. She contributed to two recent books on natural medicine, The New Menopause Book, edited by Taliaferri et al, and the text, Traditional Medicines for Modern Times: Antidiabetic Plants, edited by Amala Soumyanath, CRC Press. She is the author of two popular books on women’s health, The Herbal Menopause Book and Herbal Remedies for Women.
