The Guard Volumes 1 & 2 of the Total Grappling Series
Leverton, Nathan “Levo” 2 hours and 28 minutes
Tape 1 focuses on movement and positioning. Drills are presented in a logical and simple sequence that takes you from keeping a mobile and aggressive open guard to strategies of stopping your opponent from passing your guard while setting him up for a sweep or escape. How to use your hips, how to ruin your opponent’s posture, and how to effectively use your legs
Tape 2 focuses on sweeps and submissions using standing clinchwork concepts applied to the guard game with tactics like the underhook, overhook, arm drag, and head lock. Again, the theory underlying the set ups and actions performed is straightforward, instantly practical, and presented in a logical and easy-to-follow sequence. Sweeps and submissions are taught in logical sequences, with each technique either functioning immediately or, if it fails, setting up the next in the series. Each combo and individual action is depicted in exquisite detail and from a variety of camera angles. The submissions and reversals taught are the standard assortment of armbars, triangles, scissor sweeps, flower sweeps, omoplatas, and so on that we see on so many other films. The distinction here is that in addition to the typical “how,” a lot of time and effort has been invested into explaining the “when & where.”
