Why Are So Many Writers Struggling With Freelancing?
What if you could…
Learn how to produce genuinely amazing content that generates REAL SALES, thrills clients, and makes you money.
Learn how to attract new clients ON DEMAND while also generating a steady supply of high-quality leads that come directly to you.
How would you want to learn how to handle your freelance writing company like a TRUE PRO and become a sought-after authority in your niche?
There are several freelancing and copywriting courses available. There is a seemingly unlimited supply of blog articles, podcasts, ebooks, white papers, memberships, masterminds, webinars, workshops, and every other type of training imaginable.
So, why do so many writers continue to struggle for success?
This subject has weighed hard on my mind over the last several years, and I’ve chatted with hundreds of writers, trying to determine what has helped them the most and what appears to be missing in the vast diversity of accessible instruction.
It’s what I sought as I experimented with 1-on-1 mentoring, group mentoring, short form training, a general membership organization, and even direct training through work.
And it’s what I searched for when I looked back on my own path to six figures, as well as the adventures of my friends who had also reached that milestone.
I learned a few things.
The majority of copywriting courses and training programs are purely theoretical rather than practical and instructive.
You understand what I mean.
“Tell me a story.”
“Give your viewers exactly what they want.”
“Conduct further research.”
“Create a marketing strategy.”
How? How do I create a marketing strategy?
“Well, guest posts and pitches and all that.”
Okay… However, how?
“You can also comment on blog posts and social media postings, and [insert 20 additional time-consuming recommendations that will not help your business]”
Which brings us to the second issue I noticed.
The majority of copywriting courses and training programs are intended to be all-encompassing rather than targeted and efficient.
To be honest, I’m being polite here. What it’s actually meant to accomplish is deliver such a huge number of low-value advice that you’re deceived into thinking you’ve received a lot of value.
And this is really detrimental to emerging authors.
“Start a blog,” for example, may appear to be a harmless, useful bit of advice. After all, having a blog CAN be quite helpful to authors.
But here’s what occurs when a novice writer comes across the phrase “create a blog.” They stop focusing on things that are truly going to make them money today and begin wasting a lot of time figuring out how to blog.
It’s unproductive, which is the main issue with most writer training nowadays. It is neither focused nor efficient. It’s not meant to bring you from $0 to $2,000 per month as rapidly as possible, then from $2,000 to $4,000 per month, and so on…
It’s intended to include every bit of advise the author has ever received, found, or made.
And that type of training is very ineffective.
But things grow worse…
Most copywriting courses and training programs are too focused on one topic while hardly touching on others.
This is why calling it “complete” was a compliment. Because, in truth, I have yet to come across a really complete copywriting training.
Instead, many schools do an excellent, all-encompassing job in one area while entirely ignoring other important aspects required to flourish as a freelance copywriter.
Most schools do an excellent job of teaching you how to create effective copy… but that’s about it. Someone provided me a link to an 8-module course just recently. Seven of those modules dealt with writing styles. One module was on starting a business.
You may be the finest copywriter in the world and yet not make six figures. You won’t make any money if you can’t obtain clients, and the method and skill set required to land clients is vastly different from generating outstanding material. The same is true for conducting a freelancing business.
There are non-writing courses that teach you how to attract customers, but they aren’t built exclusively for writers because the niche is too tiny to focus on when teaching lead generation.
So there you have it.
After years of seeing authors suffer and having nothing to give them that answers all of their issues at once, I’ve decided it’s time for me to fix them.
