Pamela Krause’s Work with Children, Adolescents, and Families
The curriculum will teach participants how to modify IFS’s core ideas for usage with children, adolescents, and their families. We’ll look at how classic insight may be used in a younger demographic and offer a range of externalizing approaches to assist pieces unblend.
The training will also cover the application of IFS in play therapy. We will also discuss how IFS may be used with parents/guardians and how polarization affects the adult/child interaction.
Module One
IFS Concepts for Use with Children and Adolescents
We will discuss the parallels and contrasts between utilizing IFS with adults and with dependent children in September. Pam will go through the basics of establishing an IFS-friendly atmosphere for working with a child or teenager.
This month, you will discover:
Burdening and how it happens
The influence of polarizations and power differentials between children and adults, as well as how this affects work with dependent children.
How to contact parents in order to work with their children
Self-determined guidelines for dealing with children and adolescents
Module two
The Application of Implicit Direct Access
Pam will discuss the value of implicit direct access when dealing with children and adolescents. We will do an activity to assist participants in identifying aspects of themselves that may interfere with their ability to use direct access. There will also be a demonstration of IFS being used to play a board game.
This month, we will look at:
Identifying components that mix and interfere with our capacity to use direct access
Using direct access for younger children during general play
Adolescents and direct access
How to Make Use of Direct Access in Board/Card Games
Module three
Using Externalizing Techniques to Assist Parts Unblend
Pam will start by discussing how to utilize in-sight with teenagers and youngsters, specifically how to employ externalizing approaches to assist components unblend. The second section of the content will discuss unique difficulties associated with dealing with teenagers.
This month, you will discover:
Using animal figurines and clay as externalizing approaches
An example of externalizing portions
How polarizations and alignments affect teenage work
Parts of therapists and adolescents
4th Module
The Parent-Child Bond and Its Influence on Healing
The last month will be devoted to collaborating with the child’s parents/guardians. We will go into the influence of parent/guardian roles on the kid and the child’s ability to recover in depth. Pam will also discuss how parents/guardians may support their kid during the healing process and incorporate the transition into the larger family structure.
This month, we will look at:
Recognizing polarized aspects of the parent and kid
assisting parents in discovering, being concerned about, and potentially healing their own portions that effect their kid
How does the power imbalance between the parent/guardian and the child affect the work?
Teaching parents how to help their child’s healing

The IFS Institute
Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and academic, and he is currently on the faculty of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry. He is also a Senior Fellow at Arizona’s Meadows rehab clinic. Dr. Schwartz created the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, which is based on systems thinking, in response to clients’ descriptions of various sections within themselves. In 2000, he launched the Center for Self Leadership (now IFS Institute – www.ifs-institute.com), which provides three levels of IFS training and seminars to professionals and the general public in the United States and worldwide. Dr. Schwartz has produced many books and over fifty papers on IFS and has been a prominent speaker for national professional groups.
