Helio Soneca – Half-Gi No-Gi
Helio “Soneca” Moreira started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 8 with Black Belt teacher Cirilo Azevedo. Having fell in love with this Martial Art at the age of 9, he was already a Brazilian Champion. At the age of 13, Helio traveled to Rio De Janeiro and started to practice with the Gracie Club, today known as Barra Gracie, instructed by the Machado Brothers, Ze Henrique Leao Teixeira and Renzo Gracie. Soneca, as he is called in the Martial Arts world, selected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as his vocation and dedicated himself completely to it. At the age of 22, he acquired from Master Carlos Gracie Jr., the Black Belt he had been dreaming of; a distinction that few people possessed at that time.
Soneca is a 4th degree black belt and is widely regarded as one of the top fighters and Masters in the world. He is also one of the founders of Gracie Barra, the world’s top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school. Soneca is well-known for his incredible competition achievements, including the Brazilian, Pan-American, International, and World Championships. He has also won numerous NHB titles.
