* The menus are all in English, but because Karate originated in Japan, the names of the routines (Kata) and counting (1, 2, 3, etc.) are frequently done in Japanese, thus this has been recorded as the official DVD language.
Karate-Videos’ ‘Grading Curriculum for Shotokan Karate 9th-1st Kyu’ covers, as the title suggests, the grading syllabus for novices, up till they get to wear that gorgeous silk belt around their waist.
Craig Raye, the late Sensei Enoeda’s club dojo captain for ten years, and his sparring partner Robert Richards, who also studied under Sensei Enoeda, Kawasoe, and Ohta, showcase this DVD.
The brilliance of this DVD, in my opinion, is in its format. Raye and Richards’ demonstrations of Basic Kihon exercises, kata, and kumite may be accessed with a simple flick of your DVD remote. This will offer an intriguing look into the future growth of the beginning as they go through the grade rankings.
The great utilization of camera angles distinguishes this DVD from the competition. Most DVDs give the conventional viewpoint, which is from the front, sometimes from the back, and sometimes from the side. This DVD, on the other hand, offers up to 12 distinct viewing angles, including wide vistas, top shots, close-ups, profiles, mirror images, forward and backward views, and split screen.
This makes viewing wonderful since you may study the sections that interest you at your leisure. You have the ability to select how you interpret things, which naturally transfers to how you learn. This is a fantastic advantage for me.
This DVD, like all of the Karate-Videos, combines a good format with a lovely presentation. The movie is shot from a sterile white room, which curiously guarantees that all of your attention is on the karate rather than the sometimes-awful décor seen in Karate Videos. Call me strange, but this sort of thing is highly crucial and absolutely raises the output level.
This DVD contains:
• Kata Kihon • Heian Shodan • Heian Nidan • Heian Sandan • Heian Yondan • Heian Godan • Tekki Shodan
