Erle’s Instructor Courses in Llangadog, Wales. This volume and the next volume 13 contain the following. Erle says: These workshops will teach reflexive self-defense. We do not learn sparring or fighting, only true self-defense on a subconscious level.
Sparring, in fact, is the worst thing you can do if you want to learn about self-defense since it teaches you about sparring! And neither “sparring” nor tournament “fighting” takes place on the street. Sure, if you want to participate in a sport, practice your tournament sparring, but don’t expect it to save you in a real fight! In reality, many people have realized that it is nearly hard to master true self-defense tactics after years of learning and practicing competition sparring or even becoming World Champions, etc. They are defeated in their first true street brawl. This is because they have never worked on reflexive actions; instead, they have attempted to employ their kata for self-defense! And Kata or Form were never intended to teach us how to move; “Form” was for that since most karate schools teach that kata is for fighting! So, from now on, we will use what we have previously learned in these sessions in the actual world. Your body has taken the place of the punching mitts and shields! We’ll be conducting what we term “attack/defence” internally. This is where one individual will put on protective gear and attempt to sever his partner’s head! And his partner must react instinctively by delivering a strong and telling strike to the attacker’s torso. Of course, this will take time because another detrimental aspect of true self-defense is entering it too soon or fighting someone when you aren’t ready. So don’t worry, we’ll take things gently and be nice with those who aren’t quite ready yet! As we have now completed the twelve Wudang stick fighting methods forms, I will also cover push hands, da-lu, and ch’i-na, as well as stick fighting on a more basic “bang ’em up” level. Our multiple kill and single kill tactics have now advanced to the point where we can do more than simply pounding the sh*t out of the opponent! We continue to do so, but we must also consider the possibility of other events occurring, which we must be aware of. As a result, these are included into the training. We will also continue to build the “Fa-Jing Muscle” training in order to train the group of muscles that are specifically engaged in the release of fa-jing or explosive energy. Xingyi also appears in the following drill, which covers the fire components in both yin and yang drills. Level: IntermediateRun Time: 60 minutes
