It is commonly assumed that obesity “causes” diabetes and that losing weight “cure” diabetes.
I’m going to show you research that points to a paradigm shift toward more weight neutral diabetic care. Rather than concentrating just on weight reduction, I will present increasing data that supports patient desire for healthy habits. Case studies, demonstrations, and simulations will be used to demonstrate current best practices and clinical insights to enhance patient outcomes throughout my two-day complete course. After all, when patients succeed, so do providers.
Laurie Klipfel, RN, MSN, ANP-BC, CDCES, WCC is my name. For over 20 years, I’ve worked as a Certified Diabetes Treatment and Education Specialist, handling both inpatient and outpatient diabetes care. I’m pleased about this opportunity to share all of the insights and methods I’ve learned through my own patient interactions. Diabetes treatment is always evolving. It is critical that you grasp glycemic control, acute/chronic problems, AADE-7® behavioral objectives, and all of the latest treatment alternatives (glucose monitors, sensor-augmented insulin pumps, etc.).
Diabetes management is more complicated than I’ve ever seen. And it’s more important than ever that we all keep up with the latest diabetic standards and guidelines. I am convinced that by working together, we will be able to empower patients to take charge of their health and lives.
